Peterson’s hope for Manning in purple and gold last year is not a knock on Ponder

Vikings running back Adrian Peterson edged Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning for the 2012 NFL MVP award.

During Peterson’s MVP press conference Saturday evening, he said he hoped the Vikings had a chance to get Manning last year.

Is that a knock on quarterback Christian Ponder?

Hardly.

Nearly every player around the league would welcome the idea of playing with the future hall-of-fame quarterback. The same can be said for Peterson, a likely future hall-of-fame running back.

Both players had a miraculous season in 2012 and are both very deserving on the MVP. Minnesota and Denver could not have the seasons they had without the enormous contributions from both players.

Peterson offered nothing but support for Ponder throughout the season and has expressed much excitement for what the team can do next season. Ponder is Minnesota’s quarterback and Peterson’s “desire” for Manning is just a gesture of respect.

Still, you can’t help but wonder if the Vikings would be playing at the Superdome Sunday night with the runner-up MVP handing off to the MVP in 2012.
