The Minnesota Timberwolves will release Brandon Roy, clearing $5.3 million owed him in the 2013-14 season, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

Roy’s second year of his two-year deal he signed last year is not guaranteed. It was previously reported that then-president of player operations David Kahn might may consider using Roy’s non-guaranteed deal as trade bait, but with Flip Saunders now in charge it appears that won’t be happening.

An official announcement is expected in the near future, per the report.

Roy, 28, started the team’s first five games of the 2012-13 season, but never recovered from a mid-November knee procedure.
