Joe and Maddie Mauer welcome daughters to Twins Territory

If you thought the hype over the royal birth was big, Minnesota now has our very own royal birth to talk about. Joe and Maddie Mauer are now proud parents of twin girls.

Mauer made it home from Anaheim just in time to see his wife give birth to their daughters. While no immediate information was given the Twins posted on their Facebook page “Congrats Joe and Maddie Mauer on the birth of their Twin girls! Welcome to Twins Territory Emily and Maren!”

Mauer went through his normal pregame activities last night before receiving word that Maddie’s water had broken. Her original due date was August 31, but Mauer said several times recently that the their first children could arrive at any time.

Maddie recently was placed on mandatory bed rest, Joe recently revealed that while in New York City for his sixth appearance at the All-Star Game. Mauer, his parents and grandparents took a private jet back to the Twin Cities immediately after the All-Star Game on July 16.

It was not immediately clear who would replace Mauer on the 25-man roster or if he would even need to be placed on paternity leave. However, Triple-A outfielder, Oswaldo Arcia was pulled from the lineup at Rochester after two innings, exiting around the time Mauer would have learned of his wife’s status.
