It’s that time of the year again, it’s WNBA Playoffs time. Yes, the Minnesota Lynx made the tournament, but no they are not the number one seed. No, the Lynx are the number two seed in a hotly contested battle with the Phoenix Mercury for the coveted one seed.

The Lynx come into the playoffs after losing four out of their last five games. The squad did win their season finale on Saturday against Tulsa, 80-63.

Minnesota plays their first playoff game of the 2014 playoff campaign on Thursday at Target Center. The Lynx drew the two seed and will play the third seeded San Antonio Silver Stars. The Lynx and Stars played five times in the regular season with the Lynx winning four out of five. The last matchup of the two teams was the Lynx second to last game of the regular season and the only loss to San Antonio of the season. On Friday, the Lynx lost in Texas, 92-76.

The first game of the series is at eight o’clock central on Thursday and can be seen on ESPN 2. Game two will be in San Antonio on Saturday at six o’clock also on ESPN 2. If the series goes to three games, game three will be on Monday (August 25) in Minneapolis with a time yet to be determined. Game three is scheduled to be on NBA TV, if necessary.

The other two Western Conference playoffs teams are the number one seeded Phoenix Mercury and the fourth seeded Los Angeles Sparks.

San Antonio is a good team, but if the Lynx play up to their ability, it really shouldn’t be any contest for the winning tenant of Target Center. If everything sticks to plan, the most exciting series of the WNBA playoffs should be the potential Mercury-Lynx Western Conference Finals, but that’s putting the cart in front of the horse.

San Antonio can’t be overlooked, but San Antonio should be beaten.
