Two down, one to go.

The Minnesota Wild are 2/3rds of the way done with their swing through Western Canada and so far, the results have been what they needed. The Wild beat Edmonton earlier in the week on Charlie Coyle’s game winner, then bested the Calgary Flames on the back of a Devan Dubnyk shut out. Next come the Vancouver Canucks, a team that much like Calgary the Wild are currently looking up at in the Western Conference standings.

The Canucks have been one of my least-favorite teams in the NHL since the Wild came into existence. Some of that is due to the fact that the Wild and Canucks did battle in the Northwest Division for so many years. There’s also the fact that the Wild battled them in the playoffs.

Mostly though, my dislike for the Canucks has been primarily due to intangible things. The Sedin twins have always kind of creeped me out but I can’t put a finger on why. Their fans came off as a bunch of hooligans when they lost to the Bruins in the Cup Final a few seasons ago. Plus, there was always so much drama with the Roberto Luongo situation. I did not really care who played in between the pipes for them. All I knew was that I did not want to hear about it anymore.

None of the Central Division teams make my blood boil quite as much as the Canucks. Yes, the rivalry with Chicago is building but I just don’t dislike most of their players quite as much. If they keep beating the Wild in the playoffs though I’m sure that will change.

The Wild still have a long way to go in order to stamp their playoff tickets and beating the Canucks tomorrow is only a small piece of the puzzle. Still, beating a team I have never liked, pulling closer in the standings and sweeping the trip through Canada all sounds good to me.

Let’s go Wild.
