Hey, it’s that time again! I will be live blogging tonight’s Minnesota Wild-Edmonton Oilers game in St. Paul. As I said earlier today, the Wild are currently in playoff positioning. Winning tonight is imperative to hanging on to their position. Keep refreshing for updates!

First Period

More from Minnesota Wild

18:36 left: As Mike Greenlay just said, despite the Wild’s dominance over the Oilers on Friday, Edmonton has actually played better as of late. Can’t sleep at the wheel tonight.

15:48 left: Not a lot of action so far. Last game against Dallas the Wild went scoreless through two periods until exploding for 6 in the third period. The six goals in one period tied a Wild franchise record.

14:12 left: Wow, Devan Dubnyk is 5-0-0 with a 0.79 goals against average against the Oilers this year. If we lose, don’t blame me for the jinx; I’m just passing it along from Fox Sports North. Still, that’s incredible. Has to feel good to play so well against a former team.

11:54 left: Zach Parise gets the gate for tripping. The Wild have many penalties as shots in the game so far. That ratio probably won’t work if they want to win tonight. #analysis

10:50 left: Erik Haula hits the post on a short-handed break! Best chance of the game so far for the Wild.

9:46 left: The Wild looked good on that kill. Hopefully that sways momentum.

8:48 left: …sorry everybody. Benoit Pouliot, formerly on the Wild, buries one. 1-0 Oilers.

8:20 left: I might need a beer soon…

7:13 left: Fists will be flying soon. Matt Dumba mixing it up.

4:46 left: THE WILD SCORE!!!

4:29: It’s Thomas Vanek from Jordan Schroeder and Charlie Coyle.

4:14 left: …and Pouliot scores again. That’s upsetting. 2-1 Oilers.

4:00 left: It’s always the worst when the road team scores during the announcement of the home team’s goal. What a buzzkill.

2:30 left: The Wild may end up with fewer shots this period than they had goals in the 3rd against Dallas Sunday.

End of First Period: Well, that was gross. Let’s all take tomato juice baths and meet back here for the second period.

Second Period

More from Sporting Sota

We are back. Hopefully this one goes better than the first.

15:00 left: Pouliot is making an irritatingly high number of good plays. Broke up a Wild scoring chance just now.

9:56 left: Parise, Jason Pominville and Mikko Koivu out together again. Decent zone time but no great scoring chances.

9:15 left: Someone just yelled, “Stop (effing) diving,” at someone else at it was audible on television. More entertainment than most of this game has provided so far.

7:45 left: Six Oilers icings in a very short amount of time.

4:45 left: Christian Folin catches iron…

3:00 left: Vanek stuffed on a breakaway. It looked like he almost took himself down trying to deke right before he shot it.

:10 seconds left: I don’t kill Vanek as much as a lot of people but I wouldn’t praise him too much for breaking up that scoring chance. It started because the puck redirected off of his skate and he barely caught back up to the play.

End of the Second Period: Still 2-1 Oilers. That’s all I have to say about that.

I don’t want to get too hyperbolic over here, but considering the playoff race, the momentum the Wild have built up, the quality of the opponent and being on home ice, this would be one of the most horrific losses I can remember. Hopefully a repeat of Sunday night is in store.

Third Period

Let’s do this.

17:22 left: Slash on Eberle. POWER…PLAY (CLAP! CLAP! CLAP!)

17:06 left: Pominville just De-mask-itated Scrivens on a great scoring chance.

15:25 left: Parise and Pominville both fanned on scoring chances. Four seconds left in the power play.

14:30 left: If Parise gets another good look, I don’t think he will miss. You can see how frustrated he is with himself right now.

11:05 left: Delay of game on Edmonton! Another Wild power play.

8:00 left: That last power play:

7:43 left: Time starting to dwindle…

5:55 left: Keep swinging Wild. Scrivens might catch a cold. So many whiffs right now.

3:26 left: Coyle just got tackled. No call.

1:15 left: Empty net Wild.

Game Over: Wild lose to one of the worst teams in the league. Really nothing else to say. They really need to show up now Thursday at Nashville. The Predators currently have the most points in the NHL and the league’s best home record. Have a good night, everybody.
