Minnesota Twins Call Up Miguel Sano

Well, it didn’t take long for us to get our answer. Just a couple hours after the Minnesota Twins sent Kennys Vargas all the way down to Double-A Chattanooga we have the answer to who his replacement will be.

Our first clue came from the Chattanooga Lookouts Twitter feed when they sent out the lineup for today’s contest. Note that usual third baseman Miguel Sano is missing.

Clue two comes from Rhett Bolinger of MLB.com who tweeted out just minutes later that Sano is the man getting the call up to the majors.

Sano is the second part of the 1-2 punch, along with Byron Buxton, that Twins fans have been waiting for. In 66 games this year, Sano has 15 home runs, 48 RBI and is hitting .274/.374/.544 with an OPS of .918.

Phil Mackey of 1500ESPN made a very good point on Twitter after the Bollinger report. Not only is this the second big time call up from Double-A for the Twins this season, but it’s becoming pretty darn typical for the ball club.

The Twins play in Kansas City tomorrow night, so if you leave pretty soon you can still make it down to Missouri to catch Sano’s first MLB contest. Obviously, we don’t know if Sano will be in the lineup officially yet, but Buxton did make the lineup in his first MLB game, so there’s a good chance we see Sano tomorrow playing some ball.

First pitch is slated for 7:10. You can see the game on Fox Sports North and hear it across the Treasure Island Baseball Network.
