Minnesota Vikings: Adrian Peterson and the Taylor Swift Philosophy

facebooktwitterreddit

I’ve said multiple times that when it comes to his football career, last year’s suspension for Adrian Peterson might’ve been the best thing to happen to him. Peterson got virtually a whole year to rest up, heel any wounds and now is ready to play football again. The rest component is especially important at a position that you get creamed every time you touch the ball.

This might set up an awesome season for the All-Pro running back, but we also don’t know that the running back Vikings fans see in 2015 will be the Adrian Peterson we are used to.

Breaks are good for professional athletes, but too much of a break can be bad. Take the Minnesota Twins and Kendrys Morales last season. The Twins thought that adding the DH would instantly lead to some bigtime run production that never happened. Morales was traded by the end of the season and now after being back in the game for a while is totally raking with the Kansas City Royals.

Peterson and Morales are totally different athletes. Just look at them. I see one of them when I look in the mirror and I don’t see the guy in pads that is for sure.

All of the new guaranteed money the Vikings are now giving Peterson got me started on this train of thought, but it’s not about the money. As Patrick Reusse, personal hero from 1500ESPN and the Star Tribune, pointed out in his blog, the NFL is at the point where the U.S. Treasury is probably printing out bills and backing the truck directly to Zygi’s door.

There’s no reason to worry about a, at least close to, billionaire losing millions.

The worry is that there are two paths that Peterson might go down: he could win the NFL MVP again or he could crash and burn. There’s probably not a whole lot of room for anything in between.

It’s the Taylor Swift philosophy, ‘… going to be forever or it’s going to go down in flames.’
