Minnesota Vikings: Teddy Bridgewater Adds Weight To Meet Weight Goal

While most of us are trying to lose weight, a select few actually get to gain some for their job. Most notably actors, that’s typically with just a bunch of food, which would be fun, but football players sometimes have to do it, too. That’s what Minnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater did this offseason.

Of course, Bridgewater didn’t get to binge on Cheetos and biscuits and gravy, sadly, but he gained a bunch of weight by hitting up the weight room. 1500ESPN reports that Bridgewater is now sitting at 215 pounds which is the weight ceiling that the Vikings set for their QB.

The Vikings wanted Bridgewater to gain some weight so he could better sustain a full NFL season. Bridgewater was a little thin last year for the team’s liking and the extra bulk is hoped to help Bridgewater cushion some blows.

Bridgewater took a lot of blows last season. In his rookie campaign, appearing in 13 games, the former Louisville Cardinals player was sacked a whopping 39 times. The sack percentage for Bridgewater a year ago sat at 8.8%, so just a little under 10% of the time when Bridgewater dropped back to pass, he was sacked.

Time will only tell and show what the added weight will do for Teddy’s game. Either way, the sacks should be limited a lot less in the upcoming season for multiple reasons. Bridgewater should hopefully have a much healthier offensive line in front of him, which helps tremendously, plus a year of experience will help Bridgewater be able to make quicker decisions in the pocket and avoid more hits.

Bridgewater is living the dream. Getting paid to get millions of dollars to play a game, plus not having to freak out when the scale is going up.
