Minnesota Twins Acquire Reliever Neal Cotts

Just when you thought that the Minnesota Twins wouldn’t be making any more moves, they just keep making them. The Twins have acquired left-handed reliever Neal Cotts from our friends from across the border, the Milwaukee Brewers. The Twins will send the often traded player to be named later or cash later.

The Twins did need to make a roster move to get Cotts on the roster and the Twins did that by optioning A.J. Achter to Triple-A Rochester.

This late in the season, Cotts had to go through waivers which is pretty impressive when you sit back and think about it. The lefty reliever had to have all of the National League and a handful of American League teams for the Twins to have the opportunity to grab Cotts.

Minnesota was in desperate need for some more bullpen help, but the best part of the move is that Cotts has been pretty good for the Brewers so far this season. Cotts this season has an ERA of 3.28 and a 1.288 WHIP in 49.2 innings over 51 contests.

Cotts has had two dynamite years with ERAs in the 1.00s, but this season would be his next best season ERA.

Cotts is accustomed to the American League, too. He has spent six years in the AL with four of those being with the Chicago White Sox from 2003-2006 and two with the Texas Rangers in 2013 and 2014.

The reliever is expected to join the team in Baltimore this weekend and help a bullpen that has Kevin Jepsen has the interim closer as Glen Perkins is recovering from injury.
