Minnesota Timberwolves: It doesn’t even make sense to trade Ricky Rubio

Rumors will fly during the offseason of any professional sport; the diehards need something to talk about over the water cooler every day. Recently the rumor of the Minnesota Timberwolves trading Ricky Rubio has been popping up more and more.

This is absurd. At least for the moment.

Bleacher Report’s Ric Bucher was asked whether he was warm or cold on the possibility of Rubio being dealt. Here is what he said via a transcript from our friends at Sir Charles In Charge:

"“The trust in [Ricky] Rubio and his ability to score, really more than anything else, with the game on the line has them thinking that [Andre] Miller will be their closing point guard. If that’s the case, certainly Rubio sees himself in a greater light than that. There are a couple teams – Sacramento is the first one that comes to mind even with Rondo there, Dallas…they are still in the market for finding a long term point guard. I could those as landing places with Rubio.”"

First off, if Andre Miller is playing in the closing minutes, the Wolves have a major issue. Miller, Tayshaun Prince and Kevin Garnett are here to mentor the young pups and play a couple minutes here and there. If the mentoring goes excellently, there will be three guys sitting in warmups at the end of the bench at the end of the season who never get out of their chair. That’s a good thing to happen.

Sure, Dallas makes sense for Rubio, but Miller would make sense there too, but he chose the Wolves. Dallas just needs a point guard.

The main reason Rubio won’t be traded is the fact that he has been billed as part of the major future of the franchise and he’s been a part of that billing for a long time. Rubio deserves to be paired with Andrew Wiggins for more than a season and to play with Karl-Anthony Towns. This is the most athletic team the Wolves have ever put together and having an amazing passer with the young jumpers might be the perfect combo.

Rubio’s career has not been as amazing as once thought it was going to be, but he is still an above serviceable point in the Association. Not many can pass the way that Rubio can and that is still very underrated in today’s points crazy world.

If Rubio looks horrible in 2015-16 then Flip Saunders can go crazy and move him, but it makes no sense to do that before seeing him with the new crew.

Don’t forget that Rubio is only 24. He averages over eight assists a game, over two steals and double-digit points. Simply, Rubio is better than what people want to believe he is worth.

Plus, Doogie says the Wolves aren’t moving him now.
