Minnesota Twins will not be calling up Josmil Pinto

The dream is dead. The dream, that maybe only I held, that Josmil Pinto would come and be the offensive juggernaut that the Minnesota Twins needed down the stretch won’t be coming true this season. Phil Miller of the Star Tribune is reporting that the Twins will be calling up a catcher for September call ups, but it will not be Pinto.

More players will be coming up right away, too. This from Manager Paul Molitor:

"“To wait another eight days doesn’t make a lot of sense when we have some needs right now. We’re going to at least fill a couple of those right away.”"

That little bit is news because the Twins might be taking minor leaguers away from the playoffs or playoff runs. Triple-A Rochester is, as of Monday afternoon, five games back in their division and Double-A Chattanooga was the first half champions in their division and will be heading to the playoffs due to that.

Back to the Pinto and the Twins catching situation, Eric Fryer will likely be the catcher called up for the Twins then. Fryer will need to be added to the 40-man roster for that to happen.

It’s been a rough season for Pinto. He has been suffering from concussion symptoms virtually all season long and has yet to catch in 2015. Pinto was just reactivated on August 6 and has been appearing as the designated hitter for the Rochester Red Wings.

The good news for the Minnesota Twins is that primary catcher Kurt Suzuki has stepped up his game since Pinto’s activation making the offensive hole the catcher position once was this season, not too bad.

So now that the Pinto dream is over, let’s focus on making sure Jose Berrios is up here. He’d be a great addition to the squad.
