Toronto Raptors to sign former Minnesota Timberwolves forward Anthony Bennett

Well, that didn’t take long at all. It looks to be all but officially official that now former Minnesota Timberwolves player Anthony Bennett will be heading to his home squad Toronto Raptors, according to Jerry Zgoda of the Star Tribune.

Bennett will be at the league minimum, but it wasn’t exactly a sure thing that the former first overall pick would actually be in the NBA for the 2015-16 season. Bennett has a portion of potential, you have to if you were drafted that high no matter how good of a draft it was, but it still is concerning when you are on your third team in three years in the league.

Bennett’s bouncing around isn’t why most players bounce around like that. No emotional or relationship issues have been reported, but that just proves how much Bennett has underperformed thus far in his NBA career.

Bennett appeared in 57 games for the Timberwolves last season and started in three of those contests. He averaged 5.2 points per game and 3.8 rebounds per game in an average of just under 16 minutes.

This is what General Manager Newt Milton said after the announcement of Bennett’s release.

"€œIn speaking with Anthony and his representatives over the past few days, we came to the conclusion that this was the best outcome for both parties. When you look at our team, our deepest position is probably power forward. This move balances out our roster while also allowing Anthony another opportunity in the NBA. He has a lot of talent and his play this summer internationally made this a difficult decision for us.During his short time here Anthony has carried himself with class and represented the franchise in a very professional manner. We thank him for his positive attitude and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors."

Good luck in Toronto, Anthony.
