Where in the world will former Minnesota Twins manager Ron Gardenhire go? The National League looks to be the place where the signs are leading for Gardy’s next gig. It turns out that Gardenhire has already interviewed with the San Diego Padres according to MLB.com’s William Ladson.

Ladson is the Nationals reporter for MLB.com, so if you think that means that Gardenhire is going to interview with the Washington Nationals, well, you are spot on:

Ladson also reports that the Nationals will be interviewing Dusty Baker.

The Nationals job is open after manager Matt Williams was fired last week after the Washington Nationals missed the playoffs after coming into the season as the favorite to reach the World Series out of the National League.

The Padres job is open for hire after the Padres revamped last off-season and didn’t do anything under two different managers. Bud Black started the season as the manager, but was fired in June. Pat Murphy replaced Black, but was not kept on when the season concluded.

All of this is after Gardenhire was rumored to be heading to the Detroit Tigers. The rumor came from a sketchy Detroit sports blog and it made for some interesting discussion on the interwebs and sports talk radio, but the Tigers decided to retain manager Brad Ausmus for next season to the surprise of many.

Gardenhire is only 57-years-old which is still a good age for a manager. Gardenhire is actually two years younger than his Twins replacement, Paul Molitor. Garednhire was the Twins manager for 13 seasons and won the AL Central six of those seasons and has a career managerial record of 1068-1039 even after four straight 90-loss seasons to close out his Twins career.
