Minnesota Vikings: Cordarrelle Patterson reportedly not on the trading block

By my calculations, Cordarrelle Patterson touched the ball only twice in the Minnesota Vikings victory over the Chicago Bears on Sunday, but that’s still apparently important to the Purple. According to Pro Football Talk, the former first-round pick is apparently not on the trading block.

Patterson, of course, is still the Vikings main kickoff returner, but he is about dead last on the depth chart when it comes to wide receivers. He wasn’t even targeted on Sunday. He has a total of two catches all year for a measly 10 yards.

Patterson got off to an extremely hot start in his career his rookie season. He got the whole fan base excited, but now a couple years later he is the source of a lot of angst for the Vikings and fans alike with his inability to run routes and seemingly understand the Vikings’ offense.

As Judd Zulgad points out at 1500ESPN.com, the reason that the Vikings might not be willing to deal Patterson is because the Vikings gave up so much to get him. The Vikings gave the New England Patriots four draft picks to trade back into the first round of the 2013 draft so they could snap up Patterson with the 29th overall pick.

There’s also the little issue that Patterson’s value is at an all-time low. Patterson has been relegated to a kickoff return specialists and in today’s NFL there are just simply not a lot of kicks to return anymore, the proof is that Patterson only had two on Sunday.

The trade deadline is Tuesday at 3 p.m. and while the Vikings have some needs, it doesn’t look like Patterson will be heading away from Winter Park.
