Minnesota Timberwolves: Steph Curry goes off and Warriors down Wolves

The Minnesota Timberwolves faced their toughest challenge of the year on Thursday night and they couldn’t quite down the still undefeated Golden State Warriors. Stephen Curry happened and the Warriors won 129-116 at Target Center.

Wolves starting point guard Ricky Rubio was out for a second straight game with an injured knee and the Wolves could have really used his defense on the perimeter. Curry went off again on Thursday night and tallied 46 points. Curry shot 8/13 from three-point land and was 8/8 from the charity stripe.

Curry made one less three-pointer than the whole Wolves team combined attempted in the contest.

The Wolves played their worst first quarter defense of the year allowing the Warriors 40 points in the first frame. The Warriors would have a 20-plus point lead, but the Wolves would cut that down to only five points in the final minutes of the game. It was truly a game of runs with big runs by both teams.

Draymond Green also had a big game for the Warriors with 23 points and 12 assists. Green was a +34 in the plus/minus. Festus Ezeli also had an impressive game down low with a 10 point game.

Not too many Wolves were in the positive in the plus/minus for the game. Nemanja Bjelica, Shabazz Muhammad, Gorgui Dieng, Andre Miller and Kevin Martin were all positives off the bench.

Muhammad had a very impressive game off the bench again with 16 points and going 6/8 from the field. Andrew Wiggins led the Wolves with 19 points and Karl-Anthony Towns notched another double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

All in all, the Wolves had stretches of real nice play, but some stretches were they didn’t look so good. The fact that the Wolves were playing in a competitive game in the final minutes with the best team in basketball without Ricky Rubio only adds up to good things for the Timberwolves.
