The Minnesota Vikings have said goodbye to a tight end, but they have also said hello to a new one. Chase Ford has departed, but the team has signed fellow tight end Dominique Jones to replace him.

First, Ford has been through the roster ringer in the past week. Last Wednesday, Ford was released from the Vikings active roster after the team activated cornerback Josh Robinson from the Physically Unable to Perform list. Two days later, Ford was back on the Vikings but this time as a member of the Purple’s practice squad. On Tuesday, the Baltimore Ravens signed Ford off of the Vikings practice squad and onto their active roster.

In response, the Vikings signed Jones to the practice squad. According to 1500ESPN, Jones was on the Denver Broncos this offseason, but didn’t make the final cut. He’s since been on the practice squads of the Ravens and the New York Giants and was most recently dismissed from the Giants’ practice squad last month.

Jones has appeared in 13 NFL games since his rookie season in 2012. In 2012 with the Indianapolis Colts, Jones appeared in four games and registered one catch. In 2013, Jones appeared in six games with the Colts with two catches and two games with the Kansas City Chiefs and had no catches. Last season, Jones appeared in one game with the Broncos and did not register a catch. Jones has registered three NFL starts, but no touchdown catches.

Ford had been a member of the Vikings since the 2012 season, but did see any playing time until 2013. Ford played in 20 games as a Viking, including five starts last season, and had 34 catches and a touchdown in his Minnesota career.
