Minnesota Twins lose Josmil Pinto and A.J. Achter on waivers

The Minnesota Twins added a bunch of people to the 40-man roster on Friday afternoon, but they also lost a couple of names to the waiver wire. Catcher Josmil Pinto is heading to the San Diego Padres and A.J. Achter is heading to the Philadelphia Phillies.

Pinto only appeared in 78 games for the Twins and was much more of an offensive catcher than a defensive minded one. In his Twins career, Pinto hit .257/.339/.445 with 11 home runs and 30 RBI. The move of Pinto to the Padre is definitely an interesting one since being a National League team they cannot utilize his bat with the designated hitter position. Pinto’s bat could have been used with the Twins this past season, but Pinto was dealing with concussion issues virtually all season long.

Achter appeared the last two seasons with the Twins in a total of 18 games. Achter completed 24.1 innings of work with a 5.18 ERA and a 1.438 WHIP. This past season Achter appeared in 11 games with a 6.75 ERA giving up 10 runs in 13.1 innings of work.

Rhett Bolinger also reports that the Twins have added the following to the 40-man roster: J.T. Chargois, Yorman Landa, Pat Dean, Mason Melotakis, Taylor Rogers, Randy Rosario and Adam Brett Walker.

The roster is sure to change more before the start of the spring training. The Twins will have hopefully signed Korean slugger Byung-Ho Park and improved the pitching staff as well in a push for the playoffs in 2016.
