Mike Pelfrey is no longer a problem for the Minnesota Twins. Reports have Pelfrey signing with the Detroit Tigers.

Minnesota Twins fans have dealt with the rest of the American League Central beating up on the team when Mike Pelfrey is on the mound. It looks like it might be time for the Twins to return the favor with reports having Pelfrey signing with the division rival Detroit Tigers.

1500ESPN points to multiple reports saying that Pelfrey will get a two-year deal worth $16 million. That is a lesson to any younger reader, practice your pitching and if you can be a mediocre major league starter you will get some major coin.

As much as we all like to rag on Pelfrey, he did have some excellent pitching performances for the Twins this past season. He still should have been in the bullpen for the entire year, but let’s let bygones be bygones, I suppose.

Pelfrey pitched 341 innings over three seasons for the Twins and leaves with an 11-27 record in a Minnesota uniform. Pelfrey’s Twins ERA will stand at 4.94 in his time calling Target Field home.

Minnesota did not lose out on anything with Pelfrey’s departure. While Pelfrey can be serviceable at times, the Twins do have an overload of people vying for the five starting spots in the major league rotation and Pelfrey wasn’t exactly wild about being out of the bullpen before Ervin Santana’s suspension a season ago.

Good luck, Pelfrey, but I can’t wait for the Twins to see him a time or two with Detroit.
