Minnesota Twins: Wishing, waiting, hoping for the Twins to make a move

While moves were aplenty, the Minnesota Twins stood still during last week’s winter meetings in Nashville.

The Minnesota Twins shocked the world in 2015 by actually being competitive. The Twins were not knocked out of the playoff chase until the very last series of the season which is something after a handful of years before being virtually eliminated by the All-Star Game. It was a good season.

It wasn’t a great season, though. The season showed that there was definite areas that needed improvement throughout the major league club, so it was a wide held assumption that Terry Ryan would make a move or two for the Twins during baseball’s winter meetings. No dice.

The Twins did nothing in their trip to Nashville rumors flew that they were in on multiple people and were trying to trade Ricky Nolasco, but nothing was ever completed which goes in tune with the rest of the offseason for the Twins.

Sure, the Twins signed the big name Korean slugger Byung Ho Park, but that’s the only major addition so far this offseason. Aaron Hicks was traded to the New York Yankees for catcher John Ryan Murphy, Chris Herrmann was sent to the Arizona Diamondbacks for outfielder Daniel Palka, claimed catcher John Hicks from the Seattle Mariners and lost Josmil Pinto and Mike Pelfrey via waivers and free agency. None of those are huge moves other than Park and Park is coming from a whole different league which could result in a major steal or a major flop.

More from Minnesota Twins

The lack of moves leaves Twins fans wondering if the team will do anything this offseason to improve the bullpen. Going into the offseason the main areas of concern were getting some additional offense from the catcher position and improving a bullpen that found itself to be pretty sketchy down the stretch in 2015. The Twins have seemingly tried to find their offense behind the plate with the additions of Murphy and Hicks, but that’s it.

There’s plenty of offseason left, but the signings throughout baseball are getting all baseball fans a little itchy. The Diamondbacks grabbed Zack Greinke, Johnny Cueto to the Giants and we could go on and on while the Twins biggest addition to the bullpen to date is a healthy Glen Perkins.

Terry Ryan has done wonders for the Twins, but it’s hard to improve a team if no changes are made.
