Saturday was the 50 day mark until the Minnesota Twins have their pitchers and catchers report.

You have thrown out the old calendar and the new 2016 calendar is up and that means we are so darn close to spring training which means we are close to spring which really means we are close to summer. So all in all, summer is just around the corner.

If you started a countdown on Saturday for when the Minnesota Twins pitchers and catchers report, you’d have to start at the nice round number of 50. That’s nothing, that’s just one really long nap, but if you need some baseball related to do before that day comes, we’ve come up with a list for you.

Watch some Byung Ho Park highlights on YouTube. Park has been the big splash of the offseason so far for the Twins and he’s going to be the talk of spring training, good or bad, when it does finally come.

  • Watch Little Big League. A kid becomes the manager of your favorite team. It’s a classic, simply. If you don’t own it, you probably should, but MLB Network has been playing it fairly frequently as of late, so, as they say, check your local listings.
  • Buy a new jersey/shir-sey. A baseball fan can never have enough garb and before spring training is the perfect time to tie a new piece of clothing to somebody’s train. It doesn’t matter who you grab, just grab some new threads. I’m leaning towards going old school this year, I’m thinking Kent Hrbek.
  • Predict the Opening Day lineup and the opening starting rotation. All baseball fans do this, but sometime before anyone reports make a final prediction and see if you are on the same page as

    Paul Molitor

    when Opening Day comes.

Pick your top ten home games of the season and try to get to some of them. If you live within driving distance of Target Field, start planning for what games you want to see in person. You don’t have to go to all ten you put on the list, but once you get your list you can at least start winding it down to the amount of games you want to go to. This little exercise helps make a 81 game home schedule look not so daunting.

Don’t worry if you don’t tackle the list for a little bit. Let’s face it, the NFL playoffs haven’t even started yet and the Minnesota Vikings are still alive, I’m not going to be totally baseball desperate until the Vikings are done for the season. Once the Vikings are done though, my baseball thirst will come up fast.
