Dirk happened and the Minnesota Timberwolves fell to the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday.

The Minnesota Timberwolves moved their game on Sunday to later in the afternoon to accommodate the throngs of fans who also wanted to watch the Vikings playoff game. The bad news from the Vikings loss just got a little worse for the Minnesota sports fan as the Wolves fell to the Mavericks 93-87.

What happened to the Wolves against the Mavericks is what has seemingly happened every time the teams have matched up in the past 17 seasons or so. Dirk Nowitzki happened. Dirk went for 29 points and seven rebounds in the Dallas victory. Chandler Parsons scored 14 and Zaza Pachulia scored 13 and grabbed 11 boards for the only double-double of the game.

The Wolves couldn’t get any offense going on Sunday which is becoming a very common occurrence for the young team. Andrew Wiggins lead the team with a 21 point night, but running mate Karl-Anthony Towns did not have a typical KAT night. Towns notched only 10 points and four rebounds in the contest.

More from Minnesota Timberwolves

Shabazz Muhammad had a nice game off the bench with 16 points. Ricky Rubio contributed 12 points and eight assists. Nemanja Bjelica’s minutes are finally increasing little by little again. Bjelica had a six point night by knocking down both three-point attempts he threw up against the Mavericks.

Reportedly, Kevin Garnett is dealing with an injury and that is allegedly why he is only playing minimal minutes. KG played seven minutes on Sunday and scored two points with a pair of assists.
