Throughout the NBA Draft process, there as been more and more links between the Minnesota Timberwolves and point guard Kris Dunn.

From mock drafts and workouts, the Minnesota Timberwolves have been linked to former Providence point guard Kris Dunn. Dunn is the highest rated pure point guard in the upcoming NBA Draft.

As we look ahead to the draft, some would say that one the biggest needs for the Minnesota Timberwolves is a backup point guard. Some who are not believers in Ricky Rubio, think the Timberwolves should be looking for his eventual replacement.

Kris Dunn spent his four years at Providence, deciding to forgo the draft of 2015 and come back to school for his senior season. Dunn was the Big East Player of the Year and the Big East Defensive Player of the Year for the previous two seasons.

Dunn is known to be a great defender and ball handler. His downfall is in his shooting. Posting a shooting line of .448/.372/.695 last season, he struggled at the free throw line. There are some that give Dunn high praise comparing him to John Wall, while others say a safe comparison for Dunn is the Timberwolves own point guard Ricky Rubio.

The first of the links that Dunn has to the Timberwolves came from early mock drafts with the writers noting that they do not know if the Timberwolves are confident in Ricky Rubio’s future with the team.

Next, Dunn is represented by the same agency as newly hired Head Coach and President of Basketball Operations Tom Thibodeau, as well as Rookie of the Year Karl-Anthony Towns. Both Thibodeau and Towns were present at the agencies pro day, with Towns taking part in the workouts showing Timberwolves fans and the new head coach what a Dunn-Towns combination would look like.

Finally, for Dunn to reach the Timberwolves, he would have to have not been selected by the four teams ahead of them in the Draft. With the pair of Simmons and Ingram presumed to go one and two, the other two teams are Phoenix and Boston. Both of these teams are set at point guard, with Boston’s all-star Isaiah Thomas, and the log jam at guard in Phoenix between Bledsoe, Knight, and Booker.

It has been rumored that Dunn does not want to go to either of those teams and sit behind young point guards that the teams have already invested in. John Gambadoro, Arizona Sports Radio host, mentions what he has heard of Dunn.

There are rumors that Boston will trade the third pick for a developed star and that someone could possibly use that pick to select Dunn. If not, and he falls to the Timberwolves, do not be surprised if he is the pick.
