Minnesota Timberwolves Could Be First 3 Time ROY Winners

With back to back NBA Rookie of the Year winners already, the Minnesota Timberwolves have a good chance to be the first team to ever win the award three years in a row.

With Karl-Anthony Towns winning last year, and Andrew Wiggins taking it the year prior, the Minnesota Timberwolves could be the first team to have three straight NBA Rookie of the Year award winners.

This year’s possible winner is Timberwolves rookie Kris Dunn. The point guard out of Providence was the selected fifth in the first round of this year’s NBA draft.

Most thought Kris Dunn was the most NBA ready prospect coming out of the college ranks. Dunn does have some stiff competition though.

Now that we know about Rookie of the Year front runner Ben Simmons recent injury, that opens the door for Dunn even more. Simmons foot injury will need surgery and cause him to be sidelined for at least three months. That give Dunn a good head start on Simmons.

During the Rookie of the Year media day, this year’s rookie class was asked a series of questions about their peers. When asked who was most likely to win the Rookie of the Year award, Kris Dunn was the overwelming choice.

Dunn’s play making ability and size and athleticism on the defensive side of the ball should help him transition to the next level.

Dunn’s one downfall is his shooting. If he can increase his field goal percentage, and take more efficient shots, his game could be as complete as you could ask from a rookie.

It will be interesting to see how this year pans out. Dunn is just the latest addition to the young and freakishly athletic Minnesota Timberwolves squad. Adding a new coach in Tom Thibodeau, this could be the year this franchise takes a big step forward.
