The Minnesota Twins returned home on Friday night after a sweep in Baltimore of the Orioles. We know after Friday’s game that the Twins will not be sweeping the Tampa Bay Rays.

It seems as though the Minnesota Twins score a lot of runs or barely any at all in recent games. It was the barely any at all Twins on Friday night against the Tampa Bay Rays. The low offense for the Twins was also due to the fact that they were up against a very good starter with Chris Archer on the mound for the Rays.

Archer was on the mound for 7.2 innings and notched 11 strikeouts while only allowing five hits and two runs in the outing. Hector Santiago was on the hill for the Twins and did not have quite that good of a start for the home team. Santiago lasted 5.1 innings and gave up three runs on four hits and two walks.

While the offense was down for the Twins, it was a downright powerful night for Tampa Bay with all of their runs scoring via the long ball. Logan Morrison started the scoring with a two-run dinger in the fourth. Kevin Kiermaier followed with a two-run homer himself in the sixth. The scoring for Tampa Bay was capped off in the eighth via a Steven Souza Jr. solo shot.

The Twins only had two scoring plays in the 5-2 loss. Kennys Vargas hit a RBI single in the seventh inning that scored Joe Mauer. Tim Brewster would be proud because the Twins scored last, Brian Dozier notched an RBI in the eighth inning with an infield single that scored Eddie Rosario.

Vargas was the only Twins batter to collect multiple hits in the game with two. Keirmaier was the only Rays player that had multiple hits in the game, he also had two.

The Twins needed four relievers in the game after Santiago’s 5.1 inning outing. Ryan Pressly, Criag Breslow, Matt Belisie and Justin Haley all appeared for the Twins.

Final Score: Rays win, 5-2.
