The Minnesota Timberwolves need to make the playoffs this upcoming season.

We are closing in on the season of the incoming college freshmen mindset articles. For the incoming freshman, they’ve always known eBay, snowboarding has always been an Olympic sport and the last time the Minnesota Timberwolves made the playoffs they were five years old.

It has been 13 years since the Wolves last made the playoffs. Think how many things have changed since then. The Wolves are on their second set of logos since their last playoff berth. To top it all off, the last time the Timberwolves made the playoffs was the only time they ever won a playoff series. The Timberwolves have been in existence since 1989.

The Minnesota Timberwolves need to make the playoffs this year.

Experts can tell you all about how the Western Conference is incredibly tough, but, not to be completely cliché, you need to beat the best to be the best. The Wolves don’t need to beat the Golden State Warriors and the San Antonio Spurs in the playoffs this coming season, but they at a minimum need to get in to the tournament.

Not many teams can match the talent of the new big three that the Wolves have. What three in the Western Conference is better than Jimmy Butler, Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins other than the Steph Curry, Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson trio? Maybe a trio of Spurs? Possibly the Rockets with James Harden, James Harden’s beard and another guy?

It is going to take time for the Wolves to totally form into a championship caliber team. The bench is a mess right now and a stacked bench is something that has made past NBA champions great. It’ll take time to fully fix that problem, but the fact the Wolves have two top fifteen players in the league right now in Butler and Towns means they need to make the playoffs.

More from Sporting Sota

Timberwolves fans, the ones that are left, are more than hungry for the playoffs. Head coach Tom Thibodeau is hungry for it after missing the playoffs for the first time as a head coach last season. Ricky Rubio wants to win and he’s said so.

Minnesotans are the most excited they’ve been about Timberwolves basketball since the Kevin Garnett MVP season in 2003-04. If the Wolves miss the playoffs, they’ll lose the faith of their fan base and that fan base doesn’t have much faith after nearly a decade and a half of missing the playoffs.

Making the playoffs is easier said than done, but it needs to be done. Don’t waste the talent of the big three. Take the fans out of their misery. Please.

Do it for the incoming college freshmen.
