Over the course of the last couple weeks, Sporting Sota’s fan poll of 347 voters revealed that Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is the favorite sports athlete in Minnesota.
Peterson collected 70 percent of the all votes, followed by eight percent of votes for Pro Bowl defensive end Jared Allen and six percent of votes for Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio.
Other choices on the poll were Twins catcher Joe Mauer (five percent), Twins first baseman Justin Morneau (one percent), Wild forward Zach Parise (three percent), Wild center Mikko Koivu (1 percent), Wild defenseman Ryan Suter (zero votes), Timberwolves forward Kevin Love (one percent) and “other” (five percent).
These polls likely shift during different seasons of the year, with Peterson’s recent MVP season likely contributing to a lot of his votes.
The biggest surprise of the poll was the fact that only one percent of the voters selected Love. Teammate Rubio beat him out with six percent of the votes.
** Note: In the time span that the poll was up, Vikings news did outnumber coverage from other Minnesota teams, possibly skewing the numbers a little bit.
