The Vikings announced Saturday their star running back will sit out Sunday’s game against Detroit due to groin and foot injuries. This is not a surprise since signs were pointing to him not playing this Sunday.

Minnesota will also sit out Toby Gerhart, who has a hamstring injury. Third-stringer Matt Asiata, who rushed 30 times for 51 yards and three touchdowns when both Peterson and Gerhart sat out December 15^thagainst Philadelphia, will get the start.

The Vikings will play their final game Sunday in the Metrodome, which closes after 32 seasons. Peterson will join former CoachBud Grantand former Minnesota playersRobert SmithandMatt Birkin addressing fans in a closing ceremony after the game.
