When Jared Allen decided to sign with the Chicago Bears, it left big shoes to fill at the right defensive end position. Fortunately for the Vikings, they had just the man for the job. Everson Griffen, who signed a 42 million dollar deal before the season, was ready to take the reigns.
It’s safe to say he was worth every penny, finishing with 12 sacks and 13 tackles for loss. Led by Griffen, the Vikings amassed 41 sacks on the year, which was tied for 9th in the NFL.
The native of Glendale, Arizona was snubbed from the pro bowl, but will be the first to receive a call if another defensive end drops out.
“I’m a little disappointed I didn’t make it, but you know how it goes,” Griffen said Monday. “I’m the first alternate, so hopefully I still make it and I’ll be down there for it. It’d be really fun.”
GAME OF THE YEAR: In a 31-13 rout of the Carolina Panthers, Everson Griffen was able to find both the quarterback and the end zone. On defense, he finished with 5 tackles and 2 sacks. On special teams, he scooped up a punt blocked by Jasper Brinkley before an easy jog into the end zone.
