It can be argued that Ron Gardenhire was not the reason for the Twins struggles. However, I don’t think that is how you should look at it. Losing had become the norm for Twins baseball. Whether or not it’s fair, Gardenhire had become a source of comfort in the losing. Teams losing 90 games year after year should not feel comfortable with their professional lot in life. It was time to bring in someone new.

That someone turned out to be Paul Molitor, who I think will turn out to be a great hire. He’s got a no-nonsense approach and is ready to take Minnesota back to prominence.

“We’ve had four years of struggle,” Molitor said. “We have fans who have tried to stay optimistic, not become apathetic or angry. We need to reach out to them. The Twins’ brand has had a lot of respect out there for a long time. We’ve got off that a little bit, and it’s time to help rebuild that. Nothing more than winning is going to get that thing started.”

With a new leader at the helm there will be a renewed sense of accountability. It’s a lot harder to accept losing when you’re trying to prove your worth to a new manager. Hopefully Paul Molitor will shift the culture of Twins baseball back to that of a winner.
