Top 20 Minnesota Twins Prospects: 20-16
16. Fernando Romero, RH SP
Romero’s 2014 season was cut short due to Tommy John Surgery and he will continue to rehab it with a possible return at mid-season this year. He has a great arm that raises eyebrows on the radar gun, but is mainly a thrower right now. Possessing a strong fastball and a curveball with solid movement, he has something to build on going forward when he returns to full strength. It will be interesting to see how he pans as a starter, because many believe his future belongs in the bullpen if his pitch development doesn’t span to 3-4 effective pitches. It’s far too early to say Romero will be a reliever, but it is a possibility with any young pitcher who is working on developing different pitch offerings.
