Many wouldn’t rank Gonsalves near as high as I am, but I see a lot of true ace potential in the tall southpaw. A 4th round pick in 2013, he could have easily been a 1st rounder had it not been for a suspension in high school and a small drop in velocity. He seems to have found his velocity back, though it still needs to climb some which should happen as he fills into his 6’5 frame. Gonsalves, despite not having a mid-to-high 90’s fastball, has a knack for striking out hitters and could be even tougher once his velocity climbs. He has everything you look for in a lefty – tall, projectable, and 3 pitches to work with between a fastball, curveball, and changeup. 2015 will be a big year for him as far as prospect status is concerned, and there’s no reason he can’t be in the top 5 next year at this time.
