I would be shocked if the Vikings spent their first round pick on an offensive lineman. Again, the biggest need is at guard, and guards simply are not generally valuable enough to take that high. That said, it would not surprise me to see them take a guard in the second or third round.

According to some rankings I have seen there might be a glut of options at guard in the second or third rounds. CBS Sports lists seven different guards they project to be taken in the second or third round. If there indeed are that many guards taken that early, it would not surprise me to see the Vikings scoop one of them up. It will really come down to how they feel about Yankey. If they believe he can fill the role this year as well as into the future they will probably wait until later in the draft to improve their depth. If not, that is a hole that will need to be addressed.

The oddly titled “Legal Tampering Period” has begun and free agents can start signing on March 10th so our questions will soon be answered.
