3. Brett Favre

The Silver Fox took the most winding path possible to become a Minnesota Viking. He was a thorn in the Vikings’ side for over a decade as the quarterback of the Green Bay Packers. Then he retired and changed his mind about retiring, only the Packers decided they did not want him anymore, but did not want the Vikings or Chicago Bears to have him either. He was traded to the New York Jets, played well until he hurt his arm, technically retired again then ultimately signed with the Vikings.

Despite the ridiculousness that led him to Minnesota, the 2009 season was one of the best I’ve ever had as a Vikings fan. Favre posted a 107.2 quarterback rating with 33 touchdowns and only 7 interceptions. I watched this throw he made to Greg Lewis in Las Vegas surrounded by San Francisco 49ers fans who had taunted my friends and me the entire game:

It was one of my best moments ever as a Vikings fan. Yes, the season ended in heartbreak and the 2010 season

never happened

was a train wreck but he still took the team to a higher level.  Because his tenure was brief and did not end the way we wanted it to he is not higher on this list but he had to be on it.
