Minnesota Twins: Glen Perkins Sets Team Consecutive Saves Record
Death, taxes and Glen Perkins converting the save. That’s what it has come down to for the Minnesota-native closer whenever he enters the ballgame for the Minnesota Twins. He cuts down the other team and no one else has done it consecutively as much as him.
With the save on Wednesday, Perkins notched his 28th consecutive save which is a team record. Passing a record now once held by Joe Nathan from his 2004 campaign. Sitting in the bullpen watching was the man who now has the third and fifth longest consecutive saves streaks, Eddie Guardado.
Saves are a weird stat and the further we dive into the analytic world, the more we might see the role of the closer change, but for now this is still a pretty big deal.
The Twins have had excellent closers and Perkins is cementing his place in the conversation of the best Twins closers of all-time. He’s among only six Twins to record over 100 saves in a Twins uniform and after Wednesday’s save he is tied for third with bullpen coach Guardado.

Soon enough only two men will be ahead of Perkins, Nathan and Rick Aguilera. Perkins will have to convert a lot more saves to catch up to them with Nathan leading the pack with 260 saves and Aguilera at 254.
There was never any doubt that Perkins would be heading to Cincinnati as an All-Star this year and that’s for one simple reason: when the Twins have a lead in the ninth inning, the other team is going to be cut down by Glen Perkins.
