  1. Matt Cassel

The amazing part about Cassel’s career with the Vikings is that Cassel was never sent here to really start at quarterback. Sure, Cassel might’ve come here knowing that Ponder was someone who could easily be benched, but there was never a guarantee of starting time for Cassel, at the beginning.

Nine starts later, Cassel put up a pretty nice career as a Viking, plus, he would’ve had more starts if he wouldn’t have gotten injured early in the season.

Cassel threw for 2232 yards in his Vikings career resulting in 14 touchdowns juxtaposed to 13 thrown interceptions. He never was the kick-butt QB seen in his time with New England and here and there with the Kansas City Chiefs, but he was a valuable piece to the organization. Let’s face it, the Vikings have had much worse for a backup quarterback that was thrust into a starting gig.

The Vikings and Cassel just separated this last March when he was traded back to the AFC and the Buffalo Bills. Cassel’s departure sets the stage for the number one quarterback on our list…
