Minnesota Twins: Brian Dozier Named To All-Star Game After All

Sweet, sweet justice.

Brian Dozier didn’t make the All-Star Game via the selection process or the Final Vote, but Saturday the call finally came. With the Toronto Blue Jays’ Jose Bautista not being able to participate in the All-Star Game it was announced mid-game that Dozier is heading to Cincinnati.

Dozier found out between the third and fourth innings of Saturday’s game and the fans rightly gave the second baseman a standing ovation.

It never should have come down to an injury replacement, but it still feels good that Dozier will be a part of the festivities in Ohio. Dozier only leads American League second basemen in seemingly every offensive category, other than batting average. Plus, Dozier’s flare for the dramatic in the past week only helps get him on the roster.

Maybe a walk-off winner for the American League is now in the cards with Dozier in tow.

Dozier will join Glen Perkins as the two Minnesota Twins representatives at the All-Star Game. This is the second straight season the Twins have sent two Twins to the All-Star Game, last year’s All-Star Game at Target Field saw Perkins and catcher Kurt Suzuki.

This is Dozier’s fourth season at the major league level and currently leads the league in runs scored. Dozier has been an invaluable part of the team hitting both leadoff, for most of the season, and cleanup, as well.

Dozier is on pace to shatter every offensive career high he has set. There is no question that Dozier is one of the best players in the American League and it is just right that he is headed to the All-Star Game.
