Minnesota Twins: Ervin Santana Finally Pays For His Jewelry

Ervin Santana had a really interesting spring for the Minnesota Twins. Yes, he was suspended for using performance enhancing drugs, but he was also not paying for some jewelry that he claimed was fake. Major League Jewelers then sued Santana because he owed them $40,000.

Santana only made one payment before claiming the jewelry was fake. According to the Pioneer Press, Santana was so convinced that the jewelry was fake that he hired a gemologist to confirm his suspicion. To say Santana was wrong would be an understatement.

The gemologist came back to say that not only was the jewelry the real deal, but worth $2,760 more than what Major League Jewelers had sold Santana the bling for.

Santana has paid $58,000 for the initial bill of $42,150, but he is not out of the legal woods just yet. Major League Jewelers is proceeding with their defamation case against the freshly activated Santana.

This is year one of a four-year deal that the Twins signed Santana to this last offseason. The Twins are giving Santana $55 million over the course of the deal, so the price of the jewelry probably won’t set him back too much.

Santana has made two starts so far in his Minnesota Twins career. The first start came against his former team, the Kansas City Royals, in Kansas City. The first start was a solid one for Santana. Start two came against the Detroit Tigers at Target Field where Santana struggled horrendously. Santana was so bad that the Twins needed a bunch of runs and a Brian Dozier walk-off homer to defeat the Tigers on Friday night.
