Minnesota Twins Franchise Four Unveiled
Well, Minnesota Twins fans don’t just vote great for the All-Star Game Final Vote, but they also selected a pretty darn good Franchise Four. Every team’s Franchise Four was announced before the MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday in Cincinnati and Nolan Ryan was mentioned a lot. He wasn’t named to the Twins Franchise Four, probably mainly because he never played for Minnesota, but, oh, what if he did?
The Twins had some very good nominees: Bert Blyleven, Harmon Killebrew. Rod Carew, Joe Mauer, Walter Johnson, Tony Oliva, Jim Kaat and Kirby Puckett, but only four could be named.
Those four winners are: Harmon Killebrew, Kirby Puckett, Tony Oliva and Rod Carew.
It’s hard to only pick four players from a franchise, it’s not real smart to even try to do, but Major League Baseball wanted to do this. These being the results for the Twins, there is nothing too really complain about.
Harmon is the darn MLB logo, so he needed to be on there. Kirby is the only Twins anyone outside of the Midwest can name that isn’t named Mauer. Tony O and Carew are great picks, too, again it’s just too small of a list.

Walter Johnson is one of the best pitchers of all-time and it’s a shame he couldn’t get on the list, but it doesn’t help that he was a Washington Senator. Twins fans didn’t do what happened to the Washington Nationals. The Nationals Franchise Four had no Nationals, but all four were members of the Montreal Expos.
Every team’s four was announced via video expect for the hometown Reds which paved the way for an awesome moment. Pete Rose was the last named announced and he got to walk out onto the field at Great American Ballpark which is weird for a guy my age to see since he’s been banned from baseball for my entire life.
All in all, the Franchise Four was a cool experiment and the results seemed to be pretty good across the board, next up should be to do a position by position breakdown. That would be fun.
