Minnesota Twins Rumors: Could Carlos Gomez Return To Minnesota?
Could Carlos Gomez really be headed back to the Minnesota Twins? Anything is possible and CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman proposed that trade for the struggling Milwaukee Brewers about ten days ago and since then the rumor has been stuck in my brain.
Gomez is really, really good and would be an obvious upgrade over Aaron Hicks; even with the improvement the Twins have seen from Hicks. The issue all becomes how long do the Twins think it will take for Byron Buxton to come back from injury and be ready for MLB play and what will Gomez cost.
While there is no question that Buxton is the centerfielder of the future, before he was hurt, Buxton did not look like he was ready for MLB play. Especially compare his unveiling to that of Miguel Sano’s, it surely wasn’t on par. Sure, Buxton and Sano is a little apples to oranges, but the comparison is the easiest to make.
Let’s say that Buxton can’t make it go, what are the Twins willing to give up for Gomez? The addition of Gomez would be great, but, in theory, he shouldn’t be needed on the team after this 2015 season.

Milwaukee is bad and it makes sense to trade off some assets, but they will be demanding a lot in return. Is it worth it for the Twins to trade Oswaldo Arcia and a whole lot of years of team control to essentially rent Gomez for a potential playoff run?
The Twins definitely have a couple of areas to improve upon. The bullpen needs help and it wouldn’t be the worst idea to potentially upgrade at short and behind the plate and maybe even add an outfielder to stopgap between now and full-bore Buxton, but you can’t mortgage the farm.
Minnesota needs to make upgrades, but Gomez might be too big of a fish to try and real back in.
