Ex-Minnesota Twins Catcher Ryan Doumit Now Playing Beer League Softball
Ryan Doumit must be a really cool guy. The former Minnesota Twins catcher and outfielder is no longer in the major leagues, but is playing some major beer league softball in his home state of Washington.
Seriously, the guy who got paid millions of dollars to play baseball is doing the same thing that I just did this past weekend.
Doumit’s not doing it alone either. Former Twins draft pick B.J. Garbe is also on the same team as Doumit.
How did we find out all about Doumit’s softball career? That comes from 700-AM ESPN Spokane.
Some highlights of the story are Doumit not dreaming of playing in the MLB, but getting to the point that someday he could go home and play softball with his friends. He also says the team doesn’t keep stats that aren’t wins and losses.
That’s real beer league softball right there.
Doumit says that he believes his team is a game or two under .500.
That’s the summary of my beer league career.

Doumit played 10 seasons at the major league level: seven with the Pittsburg Pirates, two with the Minnesota Twins and his last season was with the Atlanta Braves.
Doumit is only 34-years-old, but doesn’t seem to really want to get back into the major league game. In his career Doumit hit for .264/.324/.432 with a 104 home runs and 413 RBI. While mainly being a catcher, playing in 530 games behind the plate, Doumit saw a lot of action in the outfield as well appearing in 133 games out in the grass. Also appearing in 36 games at first, Doumit was quite the utility catcher.
What position does he play in slow-pitch beer league softball? He’s the shortstop.
