Minnesota Vikings and Harrison Smith Won’t Talk Contract During Season

I always have a debate with myself in which what Minnesota Vikings jersey I would most like. I don’t want to be the typical guy that gets the quarterback, nothing against Teddy Bridgewater, or the very flashy positions of running back and wide receiver. One of the names that always remains on my list is Harrison Smith.

While my debate with myself prevails, no contract conversation will be held between Smith and the Minnesota Vikings according to Ben Goessling of ESPN.

As Goessling noted, it’s not a big deal for the Vikings with a lot of control still over Smith, but it’s noteworthy since Smith is such an integral part of the Vikings’ secondary and projects to be for many years to come.

In only three seasons, Smith already has 10 interceptions to his name and has scampered three of those back for a touchdown.

The ex-Notre Dame player is just getting better and better with age. Smith is only 26-years-old.

How good is Smith? Pro Football Focus voted the safety to their first team All-Pro squad for the 2014 season. He was third in the NFL in interceptions and second in the league when it came to interception return yards.

Smith’s three interception return touchdowns ranks in a tie for 18th on the list of active players. No one younger than Smith ranks above him. Fellow 26-year-old Eric Berry also has three touchdowns. Two other 26-year-olds have five total interception return touchdowns, Janoris Jenkins and fellow Minnesota Viking Captain Munnerlyn.
