Minnesota Twins: A Totally Conflicted Analysis Of What We Should Think

facebooktwitterreddit

I’m trying to figure out how I want to say what I want to say about the Minnesota Twins. I’m conflicted to an extent about a Twins team that I don’t know if I have ever reached before. I am usually conflicted, so this is kind of a big deal.

On Friday, I was starting to get confident again about the Twins. A rough series against the Los Angeles Angels was over and the Twins beat their 20-foot-high hurdle that is the New York Yankees pretty convincingly.

Then Saturday happened with Alex Rodriguez going deep three times. Glen Perkins blowing his second save after not blowing any in the section of play before the All-Star break. It was deflating.

Sunday’s 7-2 loss to the Yankees, in result losing the series, didn’t help re-inflate my Twins feeling. Oh and the Kansas City Royals traded for Johnny Cueto and they might never lose a game again.

On Sunday evening, the Twins sit 7.5 games behind the first place Royals in the chase for the American League Central division crown. That’s a whole lot of games.

The bright side is the Twins currently have a three-game cushion over the Toronto Blue Jays for the second Wild Card spot.

I guess what I am trying to say is that we should be optimistic and cautionary about the Twins at the same time, now you understand why I am so conflicted.

The Twins to date have incredibly overachieved, I thought they maybe could be above .500 by a game or two and compete for a Wild Card slot, but they have outplayed even my wildest dreams. They were destined to come back to Earth sometime and maybe this is what we are seeing, but that doesn’t mean we should close up shop already on the 2015 season.

Miguel Sano alone is enough to keep giving Twins fans hope and it’s probably better for Perkins to get this out of his system before the stretch run.

My theory is always to shoot high, so project yourselves as division champions while in reality it will be awesome if the team sneaks in via the Wild Card.

None of this probably made sense, but neither does the season the Twins have been having.
