It’s a new year and that’s probably a good thing for Patterson. After having an absolutely kick-butt rookie season, Patterson did not quite flash the same way in his sophomore season, that darn sophomore slump that people are talking about, but that could all change with a new season upon us.
Patterson may not be a great receiver, who wants to run routes correctly anyway, but he does have raw talent that can be deadly to the opposition if controlled correctly. Patterson could be a great return man, think Devin Hester, and is optimized sparingly, but effectively in the offense, again think Hester.
The preseason doesn’t give anyone too large of a glimpse of what team’s packages are going to be, but on Sunday we could find out what the Vikings are thinking about doing with Patterson. It’s not time to give up on the youngster, but finding a role for him and quickly would be pertinent for the squad.
