Minnesota Twins Need To Call Up Jose Berrios

Not that I don’t enjoy position players pitching in major league games, I really do, but I really don’t enjoy it when it happens to the Minnesota Twins. It’s really not good when the position player that is put in puts in one of the best pitching performances of the night, well, that’s a fairly big issue.

Extra outfielder Shane Robinson took the mound for the Twins last night and struck a guy out with a nasty knuckleball. This all started with another horrible start from Ervin Santana, whose mix of great starts and horrible starts are sure starting to lean in one direction.

While Twins fans had to sit through the beat-down that was a 17-4 loss to the last place Cleveland Indians, Rochester Red Wings fans got to see another beautiful pitching performance from Jose Berrios.

On Saturday, Berrios went seven innings and struck out nine while only allowing five hits in a 3-0 victory for the Red Wings. This was Berrios’ seventh start at Triple-A after 15 starts to start the season with the Double-A Chattanooga Lookouts. What is impressive is that Berrios joined up with the Red Wings with a 3.08 ERA from Double-A and he has lowered that to 3.02 after his handful of starts in Rochester.

He’s ready.

It’s time.

Let’s go.

You can insert your own ways of saying it, but to put it simply: it’s time for Jose Berrios to be in the Minnesota Twins rotation. It’s at the point where it really doesn’t matter who gets kicked out of the rotation, he can step in for the currently disabled listed Tommy Milone or replace the streaky Mike Pelfrey, who would still be good out of the bullpen, in my opinion.

Everyone on the internet has said that it’s time for Berrios and, maybe for the first time, the internet is correct. This stretch has absolutely stunk for the Twins, but the team is only 3.5 out of a Wild Card spot. Might as well take half of a shot by calling up the huge talents down on your farm.

I want Josmil Pinto, but Jose Berrios isn’t a want. The Twins need Berrios.

Next: Twins need Josmil Pinto, too!
