If you’ve never hit up Mankato during Minnesota Vikings Training Camp, well, you still have time. The Vikings and Minnesota State University Mankato announced on Wednesday that they agreed to a three-year extension. The extension puts Mankato as the training camp home of the Vikings for over 50 years which is also over a third of the existence of the college in Southern Minnesota.

Mankato is the second home of the Vikings’ training camp. When the Vikings joined the NFL, training camp was first held in northern Minnesota in Bemidji at Bemidji State University. The Vikings were at the home of the Beavers from 1961-1965.

In a press release from the Vikings, MSU-Mankato President Dr. Richard Davenport issued a statement:

"“We’re very happy to announce a three-year extension to host the Minnesota Vikings training camp. It’s been wonderful to celebrate 50 years of Vikings training camp on our campus this summer, and we look forward to the Vikings being here during the University’s 150th year anniversary celebration.”"

Vikings President Mark Wilf also gave a couple words:

"“Announcing this extension with Minnesota State University, Mankato, is a perfect way to celebrate our 50 years together. Vikings training camp is a great tradition for the team and our fans, and we look forward to this continued partnership with both the university and the City of Mankato.”"

The 150th year for MSU-Mankato will be in 2017.

According to 1500ESPN, the Vikings have the second longest run at a site for their training camp. Who’s in first? Those pesky Green Bay Packers who have been holding camp for 58 years at St. Norbert College.
