Cris Carter’s Apology Isn’t Really An Apology

facebooktwitterreddit

By now you’ve probably seen former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Cris Carter and his ‘fall-guy’ speech from the NFL’s rookie symposium from a couple years ago. If you haven’t seen it, KARE 11 has the video for all to see.

The video used to be on the NFL’s website, but once Cater’s comments went viral, the video was taken down despite it being available for view for over a year. The NFL’s hypocrisy doesn’t shock me and it shouldn’t shock anyone now.

What does shock me is that Cris Carter still has a job. No one seems to are that Carter basically told a room full of young impressionable men that they should not be held responsible for their actions and if they get in trouble that they should just pass the blame off to someone else. Sure, Carter said they would get the ‘fall-guy’ out of jail, but that doesn’t make the comments better.

Carter feels bad about the comments, according to his Twitter feed:

He also talked about it on the air on ESPN.

If you truly regret what you said, you don’t wait more than a year to say so. Carter is apologizing only because he got caught. If this video doesn’t come to light, Carter doesn’t even think about making an apology.

ESPN gave a statement saying that they don’t agree with Carter’s views:

"“We completely disagree with Cris’s remarks, and we have made that extremely clear to him. Those views were entirely his own and do not reflect our company’s point of view in any way.”"

That’s nice. ESPN has suspended Bill Simmons in the past for saying lesser things. Carter embraced crime.

Carter was a great wide receiver, nobody can deny that, but this advice can’t be tolerated. No matter if he said it last night or last year.
