Minnesota Vikings: Don’t Scratch The Randy Moss Itch

facebooktwitterreddit

Here’s the thing about Randy Moss. He likes to see his name in headlines across the internet. He likes attention. He’s a little like Brett Favre in that way, but let’s not go down that path because I’ll take Favre over Moss 100 times out of 100.

Another thing is that Randy Moss will not be coming to the Minnesota Vikings. I don’t have any sources close to the Vikings or overheard Rick Spielman in the bathroom. I just have a little bit of faith in the Vikings to not redo one of the weirdest chapters in team history.

The Randy Moss 2.0 era in Minnesota was awful. He didn’t produce and didn’t get along with anybody. Sure, Brad Childress was not the best coach in the world, but you got to have a little give and take between player and coach no matter who you are.

Could Randy Moss help a team somewhere in the NFL? Possibly. He is 38 and really hasn’t been the number one threat on a team since his last full year with the New England Patriots and Tom Brady. That was 2009, five whole seasons ago.

Moss hasn’t played in the last two seasons. He last played in San Francisco in 2012 when they reached the Super Bowl. He played in that game and caught two passes, but lost to the Baltimore Ravens.

The last time Moss caught a touchdown in a playoff victory was on January 9, 2005 as a member of the Vikings. He caught two touchdowns, mooned the crowd, Joe Buck called it disgusting and the rest is history.

I said all of that to say this to the Vikings, don’t scratch the Moss itch. Moss might be itching, but you don’t need to itch someone who’s been a lot of trouble in this town and would be, at best, a secondary option.

Next: Zimmer is the best!
