Minnesota Twins win sixth game in a row, Escobar homers twice
Six in a row. The Minnesota Twins have now won six games in a row. This is not a drill. The team is still ten games under .500 on the road (27-37), but right now they are hot. The team’s 5-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday put the Twins back in the second Wild Card spot.
Rays’ start Chris Archer did his best to stop the Twins attack. In six innings of work, Archer struck out 12 Twins batters, but allowed four runs on nine hits in his time on the mound. A foursome out of the Rays’ bullpen would only give up four hits and one run in three innings of work.
Archer twice was given a lead, but couldn’t hold on. Daniel Nava started the scoring in fourth with a solo shot off of Twins’ starter Tyler Duffey. Brian Dozier tied it up in the fifth via a fielder’s choice to third. Grady Sizemore regained the lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth, but that wouldn’t last either.

Shortstop for the night Eduardo Escobar tied it up in the sixth via solo homer. A bloop single from Joe Mauer in the seventh gave the Twins a lead and Trevor Plouffe added on with a sac-fly. Evan Longoria cut the lead back to one with a solo homer, but Eduardo came back to the rescue. Escobar hit a second solo shot to give the Twins the deciding 5-3 lead in the eighth inning.
Duffey had a decent start for the Twins. He went 5.1 innings and gave up two runs on four walks and seven hits. Brian Duensing gets the win. Blaine Boyer pitched two innings of one-hit ball. Kevin Jepsen notched another save for the Twins, his third with the team.
The Twins go for the sweep of the Rays on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:10 from the lovely Tropicana Field.
