North Dakota nicknames narrowed, no nickname not on ballot
No nickname is not an option for the University of North Dakota. That option was thrown out last month by the nickname committee last month and president Robert Kelley doubled down on that according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune via the Grand Forks Herald.
Here is what Kelley said:

"“”As I look back over the events and discussions of the past several years, one thing is clear to me: Our past is important — but our future is even more important. As president of UND, I believe that having no nickname — remaining ‘North Dakota’ only — is not in the long-term best interests of the university.”"
The running theory is that if the University would go with no nickname, people believe that the school would go back to the Fighting Sioux nickname, at least unofficially. The University is against that, obviously, since that nickname is what started this whole new nickname campaign in the first place.
We do know the nicknames that you can vote for. Those options are: Fighting Hawks, Nodaks, North Stars, Roughriders and Sundogs. The winner does need to get fifty percent of the vote to be crowned the winner in round one of the voting. If none of the options get that high, the top two will appear again on a ballot in a runoff.
Who can vote? Current UND students, faculty are the current ones on campus. Also alumni, retirees, season-ticket holders and donors can vote. You need to donate to the University before Monday if you want to vote, that is the cutoff date set by UND. At that point, I’d get season tickets, but that’s just me.
